About the artist

Hi, I'm Gavin Frody! I am a cellist and composer with a B.S. in Music Composition from Central Michigan University. My background includes performing with orchestras, chamber groups, praise bands, contemporary ensembles, and as a soloist. Th​ese experiences have shaped many creative approaches to both performing and writing music. In weddings, private events, or concerts, I love bringing music to life in a way that fits the space and the people in it. I especially enjoy mixing influences from artists like J.S. Bach, Ella Fitzgerald, and Tchaikovsky in my work, often through improvisation. Through connection in music, any day can be turned into a lifelong memory.

I play for weddings, cocktail parties, and private events in and around the Grand Rapids area as well as travel all across the state of Michigan. I'm also the principal cellist of the Kent Philharmonic orchestra, based in Grand Rapids, MI, as well as a board member. I've written in many different ensembles, such as symphonic orchestra, but have a soft spot for chamber music, such as string quartet, brass quintet, woodwind quintet, voices, and many types of mixed ensembles. Often times music is the most fun playing with friends. I also arrange music, especially for cello, like cello quartets and cello choir or other like-instrument ensembles as well as string duet, trio, and quartet.
